September 2022 Tourism Adaptation Roadmap Update

This month:

As the countdown to our last two months of the workstream begins, we were excited to see the mahi come together in preparation for our final workshops, report, and adaptation roadmap for the visitor economy.

Key discussions from this months’ working groups

What are the most critical challenges and how will they impact the sector?

In order to explore how the visitor economy will adapt to the impacts of climate change, it was essential to understand the challenges faced by the sector and how we are aligned to best address these pressures.

Below are the identified challenges for the visitor economy in response to climate change adaptation:

The purpose of our final workshop was to take these challenges and identify our opportunities, set objectives under each of these opportunities, and position our key goals and targets under each of the three Time Horizons as shown below. We also evaluated opportunities based on their level of impact, likelihood of success, and level of urgency to ensure we are prioritising the correct opportunities that the sector is best placed to create tangible impact.

At this final stage within the workstream, the secretariat is collating all output material and information from five months of workshops and hui to begin writing the final report. The final workshop on opportunities and the adaptation roadmap brought the vision, objectives, as well as the areas of opportunity for the visitor economy to position the sector in a way that can adapt to climate change pressures collectively.

The Secretariat is looking forward to the final stages of this mahi.
