Energy Sector Climate Change Scenarios final update June 2024

On the 20th of June 2024, the Energy Sector Climate Change Scenarios report was officially launched and made public on The Aotearoa Circle website. This report explores the potential impacts of climate change on the New Zealand energy sector by considering four plausible and challenging futures.

These scenarios provide a glimpse into what the future of Aotearoa New Zealand could look like as it grapples with climate change. They can assist both energy sector organisations and those outside the sector in planning and adapting, while also encouraging us to change our thinking and prepare for the future.

The Aotearoa Circle and PwC hosted an online webinar to introduce the report, hearing from Annabell Chartres (Partner, Sustainability, Climate & Nature, PwC New Zealand), James Ayling (Senior Manager, Sustainability, Climate & Nature, PwC New Zealand), and Hunter Douglas (Climate Scientist, Sustainability, Climate & Nature, PwC New Zealand).

The webinar also included a panel discussion with project participants, including Tina Frew (Head of Sustainability, Meridian Energy), Callum McLean (Senior Policy and Government Affairs Advisor, Clarus), and John Duffy (Business Director Future Energy, Beca).
