Our Strategy
What will we do?
Identify - Prioritise - Execute
Identify Systems-Level Priority Actions
Convene leaders, from across various eco-system services, to co-design top priorities to improve the state of our natural capital. The workstreams will link both climate and biodiversity crises to ensure solutions are considered for both. The actions will also prioritise nature-based solutions.
Execute and Implement
Hold the work so it remains a focus. Develop relationships with key influencers and decision-makers to communicate the opportunities and recommendations to ensure they are owned and acted on. Initiate projects that can’t be managed by others.
Review and Extend
Consider extensions of completed work to drive further change and proceed to convening the right leaders to act on this.
How best to achieve this?
Developing Infrastructure, Driving Influence & Delivering Impact
Focus 1: Develop ‘infrastructure’ - increase capacity, capability, efficiencies & effectiveness.
Grow capacity and capability for strategy execution and how to better understand nature-based solutions in our work.
Mature the processes supporting the work including quality and risk processes to ensure that the Circle manages its reputation, that of the partners and also the Guardians.
Capability building of the Circle team - Integrate Te Ao Māori capability plan including principles and values across all workstreams and Circle activities.
Develop a new funding model including other revenue streams, e.g., philanthropy.
Focus 2: Grow influence - ‘one to many’ principle.
Guardians, Workstream LG and Co-Chairs, CEOs of Partners and other identified organisations - act as Ambassadors for the Circle to improve influence and understanding of our work.
Better understand opportunities, actions and impact by appointing an Aotearoa Circle Rangatahi Advisory Panel to guide us.
Formalise our engagement practices including politicians and philanthropists to grow our support and gain traction.
Focus 3: Deliver Impact
Focus delivering impact ‘now’ so our ambitions are achieved by 2035. This will bring focus to decision-making and a sense of urgency.
Focus on workstreams that maximise potential results and address both climate and biodiversity crises.
Less is more – stay focused on our Kaupapa and be sure not to duplicate.
What impact will this have?
Mindset Shift
There is an understanding of why we must protect our natural capital, and a preference for choosing nature based solutions rather than off-setting.
Urgency
The focus on what can be done here and now with a 2035 deadline will generate a sense of urgency by key influencers and decision-makers.
Improved Natural Capital
Coordinating and implementing the co-designed strategies and roadmaps will see more effective decision-making, policies, regulations, investments, practices, behaviours, innovation and collaboration to restore and protect our natural capital.
Increased Influence
More Ambassadors communicating the mission of the Circle and the work we need to do will improve awareness, understanding and grow influence. It will enable leaders to step up, compel others to act and change mindsets.
Doing more, now
Improved systems, processes, capability and capacity will enable the Circle team to do more whilst utilising the voluntary support of our Partners and stakeholders.
